Local Physicians support “3 in 4 Need More” National Campaign Promotes Long Term Care Awareness
Irvine, Calif., June 1, 2011 – According to a recently conducted national survey, America is on the verge of a long-term-care epidemic. The survey found that over 70% of Americans, ages 65 years and older will need Long Term Care at some point in their lives and less than 10% are prepared financially for this need.
To bring national attention to this issue, Dr. Marion Somers, a leading authority on geriatric care, kicked off a two month coast to coast awareness tour to promote the resources available on www.3in4needmore.com. The nonprofit “3 in 4 need more” foundation was created to educate the public on the growing issue of long term care. The foundation derives its name from the U.S Dept of Health and Human Services statistic that 70% ("nearly 3 in 4") of Americans ages 65+ will need Long Term Care services at some point in their lives.
Somers will be joined with a documentary film crew to capture a glimpse of the real life struggles that nearly 44 million baby boomers face every day when they are simultaneously caring for a parent and a child at the same time. This growing group of Americans is known as the “sandwich generation.” Somers has more than 30 years of experience as a geriatric care manager, consultant, lecturer, professor and author. She has been featured in national publications, such as Parade Magazine, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, as well as NPR and The Today Show.
